Thanks for everyone's comments. I bit the bullet last night and cut hatches for no better reason than most boats have them. I'm amazed at how long it's taking to cut, sand, glass, sand, scrape, glue, etc. I'm so looking forward to finishing this boat. I think that was the real reason I didn't want to cut hatches--shorten construction time.
