Facts, not hyperbole

: It is amazing to me when someone who is obviously concerned about cold water
: and hypothermia attacks another who is also obviously concerned. While I was a bit abrasive, it was more an attack on the poor work than anything else. I have little tolerance for shabby work and people who make assumptions rather than check facts.
Consider that Mr. Sutherland made no effort to correct his false statements. Had he even bothered to check the link to my site that Brianne provided, not only would he have learned a great deal, but he might not have made the asinine assumption that I was a neoprene industry representative. My motto is "assume nothing, test everything".
: You might find that if you list your real name and email address, that Dr.
: Sutherland might call you to discuss this subject.I don't post my e-mail address so as to protect from being harvested by spammers. Anyone who wants to contact me can go to my site and find contact information there. I posted using my site name, consistent with the source material provided and the rare postings I make on other discussion boards about diving. It is hardly an anonymous posting.
My site has a reputation for excellence of information, is referred to by hyperbaric physicians and quoted by at least one government scientist, has a page distributed (with my permission) to physics educators in the UK for both excellence and as an example of a teaching tool, and two books, one on hyperbaric medicine, include excerpts from some pages on my site. The quality, thoroughness, and accuracy of the information are very important to me. I've consulted with the UHMS (Undersea Hyperbaric and Medical Society), other physicians, and government agencies like the U.S. DOT Hazmat division (another very helpful agency). I do so to provide helpful information that is true.
I dispel lies told by others under the guise marketing hyperbole. I do not quote them as sources.
:You might also try
: writing him at his email address and ask to compare notes.I see no point in that. My interest is the truth and I've done a good deal of research, including consulting with authoritative sources. He only quotes retailers and other writers disseminating hyperbole and lies, while questioning me. I provided authoritative sources that anyone can check for themselves. He relies on someone else's false information in a magazine article and the opinions of a retailer. He also makes misleading remarks like "wet suit grade Polartec". There is no such thing!
I said before:
First off, there is no such thing as "wet suit grade Polartec" nor is a Polartec suit a wet suit. Lies have been told for years about Polartec being the equal of a wet suit. I've seen claims of them being equal up to 3mm wetsuits. IT IS A LIE!: I can't tell you the number of seminars Dr. Sutherland has spoken at on the
: dangers of cold water boating. It just seems to me you guys are on the
: same team and shouldn't be trying to kick each other off that team.It may seem that way, but only casually. This is too important a subject to do such sloppy work on. I use facts, quantifiable data, from reliable organizations. I would never consider quoting some other magazine writer or use a retailer's opinion in place of cold, hard facts as he does. He lacks the qualities to make it on my team.
He probably means well, but that is no excuse for such sloppy work. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.
: This point of contention is measurable. It would be nice to get some
: information made *public* on on the true thermal value of polartec. It's out there, but you have to work to find it. You have to consult with agencies with an interest in knowing the truth, whatever it might be. I've done that. Since my interest pertains to scuba divers, I've done research, some of which has little relevance to what you all do. I've spoken with chemical engineers who oversee the production of neoprene, spoken with line personnel who produce it, gotten samples from various manufacturers and done my own compression testing, and much more.
Let anyone claiming that Polartec is the equivalent of any thickness neoprene provide actual proof rather than marketing lies. They can't of course, simply because you can't prove a lie. You can however, find proof of the truth if you ask the right organizations and care enough to do so, as I did. Writing an article is easy. Writing a truthful, helpful article takes work.
