We had the same thing happen to us when we built are kayaks so we put in just rear hatches. I have an electric pump in the one and may put in foot pumps.I am going to build a sea sock next, it takes alot to get the sand out of the kayak after getting maytag. I have custom float bags and I think you get more water in with bags than with bulkheads. Still waiting Chip's invention to be finished :-)
