The main reasons that I installed bulkheads in my kayak was for the insatallation of a foot pump, ease of storage and to have access to the ends of the boat for drying or repairs. I guess it depends on your needs and usage. You can always install them at a later time if you want to. I sure like the looks of a clean wood deck, but there's always a compromise. Good luck.
