Tom,
I am also Taking a rolling class so the troubles and frustrations are fresh in my mind.
Some things that really help me:
1. Taking a decongestant to clear my sinuses can help with the dizzyness.
2. A light supper is makes all the twisting more comfortable.
3. Good goggles and nose plugs make me alot more comfortable upside-down and keep the pool chlorine from killing you.
4. We watched "Grace under pressure" rolling video. lots of slo-mo footage plus reflective tape on the guys spine helps you see proper positioning. I was surprised a the amount of flex required for a proper C to C roll.
5. Head position makes a big difference. My friend figured out that trying to look at the back of your downside elbow keeps your head down and back.
6. With my body shape (tall) and flexibility (low) I had much better luck with a sweep roll.
7. A little extra skulling stroke at the end of my sweep gives me that extra push to get all the way up (for now)
8. My friend who is shorter and in better shape uses a different style than I do. What works for him does not work for me and visa-versa.
9. Try a different paddle. My old paddle blade was curved in both directions and tended to dive alot. Oval shaft helps with blade orientation.I hope this helps.
Veterans, Am I on the right track?Brad
