I totally agree that weight isn't really a major factor. I've come to believe that technique and conditioning are the biggies. Then for ocean racing add to that wave riding skills, reading the wind,current, tides, and staying out of the kelp. It's always amused me to see how much people are willing to pay to shed a few pounds from the boat, then "super size it" on the way home.
