Actually I do race and more than once I've wished I could've stuck to my diet and lost those 10 lbs! Our winter racing series is never less than an hour - up to 2-1/2 hrs long. Since I race a 30lb outrigger, those 10 lbs would be a bigger % of the total weight that if I was paddling something heavier. I've figured that 10 fewer pounds for one of my outrigger races would translate to almost 200 yards - definitely significant at the end of a race!
: In a race that could mean something, but the real reason for a light kayak,
: is when it is not in the water. I have a 27 pound kayak, and a 43 pound
: kayak, I almost always choose the 27 pounder. With a lighter kayak, I
: paddle more often.
