: In a race that could mean something, but the real reason for a light kayak,
: is when it is not in the water. I have a 27 pound kayak, and a 43 pound
: kayak, I almost always choose the 27 pounder. With a lighter kayak, I
: paddle more often. The weight isn't a big deal for straight speed, but its a big deal for the rotational moment of inertia. For example, if you need to quickly turn a kayak to cut down a wave while surfing, its much easier to do that with a light boat.
