Polartec Shocker!

: 2.5mm of anything isn't going to provide protection against cold water. It's
: better than bare skin, but not much.: PolarTec is not waterproof. It leaks like a sieve and is prone to high rates
: of water exchange, ensuring that you'll lose heat rapidly.: It depends. Used alone, it would be a "roll up and hope you're not too
: far from shore to make it back and change" suit. Under a dry top or
: dry suit, you could probably keep going.: In water that cold, combined with cool air, you simply DO NOT want your
: insulation to get wet. I can't emphasize that strongly enough. You need a
: waterproof layer over your insulation, which means a dry suit, or at the
: very least a dry top to keep water off the exposed parts, plus a bombproof
: roll. If you end up swimming in 40 degree water in just a PolarTec suit,
: you're in deep doo-doo. If you think you might like it for warmer water
: conditions, buy it for that and for use as an underlayer in winter. Used
: in that way, it would be a pretty versatile garment, but it is not a
: substitute for real immersion protection.Yeah!! Brianne agrees with Brian 100%!! No fights!
Safe Paddling!
