: It is a wet suit, so it needs that initial layer of water to warm
: against the skin in order to work. This is a common misconception. A wet suit works IN SPITE of allowing water in, not BECAUSE it lets water in. It doesn't need water to work. For best thermal performance, a wetsuit should fit skin tight in order to minimize water intrusion and exchange. A dry wetsuit is always warmer than a wet wetsuit.
