: Does anyone know of a good superlight kayak electric pump. Im sorry, maybe
: its me or my tippy multichine, but pumping out a kayak in 20 knot winds
: with good swells to match WILL certainly result in a capsize. I know I
: know... hold the pump with your knees... maybe in a hard chine yak thats
: doable. My kayak will laugh at any such attempt in the way of a self
: induced roll. Any help here?: Pete
I put the smallest Attwood pump made in my Ellesmere ,I think the 500 model. It was quite light and will blow the water up through a half inch hole in the rear deck about six or seven inches in the air, powered by a twelve volt gell cell battery.
It works for me although some of the bigger pumps will empty your boat faster you pay the weight penalty. My thought is that it's important to get paddling ASAP after a rescue and get the boat under control in the harsh conditions that capsized you so getting the boat pumped real fast is not real important as long as the job gets done in a "hands free "manner.I still have to vent my spray skirt a bit as the pump creates a vacuum in the cock pit and the skirt will suck down.
Hope this helps.
