Hand numbness, sore wrist tendons

Im not sure either are related but I'll mention themn both here...
Now thjat its been a while and my wrist tendonitis has subsided, Im seriously speculating on using one of those bent shaft paddles to lessen the strain I get from paddeling. For whatever reason, and I believe my job is a culprit here, it takes NOTHING to get my tendons inflamed from overuse even when the use is mild.
Do the bent shaft paddles really help here? And yes, I pivot my back to paddle not my arms!!!!
Secondly, I had a real problem with hand numbness while paddeling. I suppose I was gripping the paddle to tightly, but its almost impossible not to especially when doing some 5 miles directly into a 25 knot headwind.
Unless i can end the tendinitis problem may kayaking days are over. The numbness i can work around with concerted effort to relax.
