wood vs Avocet

There seems to be a number of good wooden boat designs for tracking, all around paddling, easy cruising and camping trips. But the discussions about performance in rough water, responsiveness, quickness, joy to paddle in pushy conditions, really great handling, etc. turn to manufactured boats.

Has any one found a wooden stripper of S+G design that is at all comparable? Or one that looks like it could be modified to give that type performance?

Thanks. Randy
