Lee,
Like all boats, the hatches start tight. I like the Valley bulkheads, tough as nails (either FG or PE). But be aware that once you seperate the hull from the bulkhead, getting a water-tight seal back again takes a bit of talent. I've only heard of very-roughly used outfitters boats leaking at the bulkheads, but a well placed rock and a nice surfing wave could cause some trouble for almost anyone. FWIW, each of my FG boats eventually develop the same bulkhead/hull seperation. Not that I abuse my boats at all, I just paddle amound some relatively hard rocks.
Does the Scirocco have the ABS bulkeads, foam or semi-rigid plastic? How has your rear hatch cover held up? That oversized beast always looked like trouble to be. Of course I only have experience with the Brit rubber covers on the Valey and Nigel Dennis boats. If you were closer we could trade boats for a while.
Jed
: Thanks jed,,the scirocco seems to take water right at the front of the
: hatch, how is the Avocet?,,this sounds verrrry interesting. Basically my
: search for a slightly faster and less windage boat than my Express is the
: goal. I haven't got a new boat in 8yrs so a plastic one seemed a
: reasonable expense,,and my b-day is coming up. Unless of course Eric comes
: up with an 8panel s&g design then all bets are off since I've got 10yds of
: 60" 4oz s-glass waiting in the wings.
