You got that right. If you visit Whitefish Point where they have the Fitz's bell and some other EF relics, you can see a bunch of other ships that went to the bottom. Very few of the mariners survived. Some were literally 25 feet from shore and went under because of the cold.
I am always fearful when I go on Lake Superior. I try to overcome my fear to see the magnificent vistas she makes available... her rugged shoreline... the pristine beauty. Her waters are crystal clear and truly a joy to paddle on. And it gives you a wonderful sense of empowerment to know that you paddled on this greatest of the freshwater seas.
Nevertheless, there is always that fear gnawing at you... telling you to never trust this peacefulness and serenity... this lake is a dragon waiting to awaken and blow out her fury.
