This is why I gave an average of 2.5 knots, about 5 clicks. Some days faster, some slower, and paddling cadence will change as you fatigue. This estimate allows for slow, steady progress and takes into account reasonable paddling conditions, with under 15 knot winds. I like the range of answers though.
: All good answers from the others, but there are a few things you need to
: consider...: What are the water conditions?
: Do you expect headwinds?
: How cold is the air; (the colder it is, the more fuel (food) you will need)?
: What load will you be carrying; day paddling or expedition?
: How fit are you?
: What is your personal physical type; sprint or endurance?
: How hard do you want to push yourself?
: How long do you need (or want) to push the pace?: The 5 to 7 km per hour sounds reasonable, but just remember that there are a
: lot of mitigating conditions that have to be taken into account.: coop
