Is your kayak:
17 feet long with a 22 inch beam or
17 feet long with a 25 inch beam, etc.In my empty plastic Necky Looksha IV I can maintain between 6.5 and 7.4 kph (3.5 nmph and 4 nmph). With a total load of about 250 pounds (175 me and 75 gear) I maintain about 5.5 kph (3 nmph).

N 53°51.140' W 166°30.228' (WGS 84): All good answers from the others, but there are a few things you need to
: consider...: What are the water conditions?
: Do you expect headwinds?
: How cold is the air; (the colder it is, the more fuel (food) you will need)?
: What load will you be carrying; day paddling or expedition?
: How fit are you?
: What is your personal physical type; sprint or endurance?
: How hard do you want to push yourself?
: How long do you need (or want) to push the pace?: The 5 to 7 km per hour sounds reasonable, but just remember that there are a
: lot of mitigating conditions that have to be taken into account.: coop
