Simply engaging the torso is the big key, rather than slouching and sitting back, letting your biceps do _all_ the work.
Racing dogma is OK for racers, but for us, it's not necessarily the key. An analogy could be made to auto racing, where often parts are made to go very fast, but for the duration of only one weekend. We're looking for the long, slow burn, like a diesel engine in a rig that has 500,000 miles of life in it. We can learn lots from other veins of paddling, but we also need to adapt the techniques to our own needs.
