Try this simple approach

Your problem may be a result of keeping all your fingers closed around the paddle on the "air side".

Try this. When pushing the paddle away on the off-stroke side (the side of the paddle that is not in the water), hold the paddle with your thumb and index finger keeping the other fingers open. This allows you to push the paddle without rotating your wrist inward.

This takes a bit of practice to make it a habit but holding the paddle this way avoids the inward rotation of the wrist that might be the source of your pain.
