Convert a paddle jacket to dry top for $7

"Paddling jacket" is usually synonymous with neoprene or some similar closure around neck and wrists. "Dry top" usually refers to latex gaskets at the wrists and neck.
Everything but latex leaks. Latex is often very uncomfortable because it fits tightly (which is why it keeps the water out). Neoprene is more comfy but it is almost certain to leak... especially at the fold point.
So what to do? Try this $7 dry top. Get neoprene sealed paddling jacket (very cheap but leaky). Go to U-Haul and buy a roll of 6" plastic sealing wrap. This is the stuff used to wrap boxes on pallets. Just before you are ready to do your rolling thing have a friend wrap the plastic over your neoprene seals at your neck and your wrists... especially at your wrists... wrap them tightly... as wrist leaks are most annoying. If you want you can wrap your waist as well. If you do it right, you will be reasonably comfortable and much more waterproof than you would have been... maybe 100% waterproof.
Your cost is $7 extra instead of $250 extra. If you find you really are into kayaking and rolling and stuff then save up and get a dry suit. In the meantime, plastic wrap may do the trick for you.
Safe Paddling!
