: I have very poor eyesite. I have been wearing glasses when kayaking, as I am
: worried if I have contacts in and they get washed out or fouled, I would
: be screwed. Glasses, however, are a bit dangerous, as in stormy conditions
: they tend to fog up, and the water drops on the lenses make it even harder
: to see the waves coming. Its often dicy to take a hand off the paddle to
: wipe them. Does anyone kayak regularily with contacts, and is my concern
: about losing the contacts while under water justified?

Hi, Robert

I'm like you, blind as a bat when not wearing glasses. I wear a tightly secured baseball cap when paddling in inclement weather. When my glasses start to fog up I use some of that fancy wax stuff you can apply to lenses to inhibit fogging. The stuff works well. It can be found for sale in most sporting goods stores and at some camping goods stores. You might be able to find it in a dive shop. I think it's called Defog. Anyone know for sure? For paddling in big waves I suggest (tongue-in-cheek) a full face mask, the kind that lab technicians (c'est moi) wear when working with hazzardous chemical. ;P Hope some of what I said helps. ;)
