Re: No, but thats not the question.

: As someone who has been "quoted" by Mr Ingram in his marketing, I
: don't like his marketing methods. I got a call one night from an anti spam
: dude who threatened to bring down my web site because my name appeared in
: spam sent by Mr. Ingram. So, I don't like the man.

How long did it take you to get him to stop quoting you? From the look of his web site, he seems to scour various publications for things he can take out of context and exploit.

: But, the question is: "Are sponsons any good?" If you know their
: limitations, they can serve a legitimate purpose. I don't see them as
: being too useful as a "rescue" device, but just because they
: have limitations doesn't mean the idea is bad. Rolls don't work if you
: paddle breaks (barring a handroll), paddlefloats don't work if they rip,
: PFDs don't work if your unconsious, etc.

Agreed.

: I've heard of people using sponsons to make their boat more stable while they
: sleep on the water. They can give added security when a paddler is in
: capacitated. I can imagine other uses for them.

I've thought of making some for use when fishing.

: I don't own any and don't intend to buy any, but I don't look down my nose at
: anyone who likes them.

Neither do I. I do openly discourage people from lining Tim's pockets, however.

: As far as some of their limitations, I think some of them could be eliminated
: with a better design.

Definitely. It would be interesting to see what would happen if someone came out with a better sponson system. From what I can tell, Tim's patent is pretty much only on the attachment method, since sponsons themselves have been around for hundreds of years.
