Thanks guys, we (a friend and I) have decided to go with the glen-l type kidyak for our 7 year olds. We are planning on making them only 8' long to eliminate the butt joints needed for a 9' side panel. Our kids are both under 50#, so I don't think it will matter much. Plus, like I said, these are only to make sure they are really interested in kayaking and not just a phase to be forgotten. If they really enjoy it, we will build them a couple of nice ones. Maybe even strippers!
