Kid-yak - Quick

Because I'm not taking a seven year old out in the ocean in a Kid-Yak, I'm going to saturate the hull, as you plan, but I do plan to tape the edges. Here is something I picked up from Common Sense Boatbuilding:
"FIBERGLASSING
If you go to the trouble to epoxy/fiberglass the outside of your Common Sense Boat it just might last forever. If you choose not to fiberglass coat you will need to at least fiberglass tape the outside. Not using epoxy/fiberglass will make building quicker and even less expensive. So finished the boat will last about 15 years if it is maintained.
FINISHING
Realistically, finishing, from prep to painting, can take up to 50% of the total building time. The amount of prep work will determine how good the final Finish is but doesn't have much to do with how well the boat works or how well built it is. There are as many ways to finish a boat as there are boatbuilders, ranging from quick and real cheep to slow and very expensive. The choice is yours. Common Sense Designer Phil Bolger uses cheep (sic) exterior latex on his self designed live aboard and swears by it."
