I designed the baidarka to be a cool looking boat with roots in the Alutian Island boats. The bifed bow is (for a stitch and glue boat) for looks making a very sharp entry and hollow bow shape which provides lots of bouyancy as the bow trys to plunge into waves (as while surfing). the stern is also unusual. It is truncated by two angled "transoms" This is my interpretaion of the drawings in Adney and Chappelle's "skin boats And Bark Canoes". The shape of the stern sections of the hull resemble those of a classic Whitehall pulling boat (hollow near the waterline and full above)
I am currently getting ready to varnish the prototype and am looking forward to trying it out.
I have photos of the on going construction posted on my web site(listed in previous postings)
