In Response To: S-glass (Rick Lawler)

Hi Rick, I've use 4 oz as a replacement for 6oz e-glass but it won't make as rigid a panel. It is more abrasion resisant and resilient than e-glass (by weight). As George said there are two kinds but I haven't got an answer which one is which,I'll ask next time. It does cost a larger chunk, one of the characteristics about it that I like is that with the test panels I made the panel bent quite far before fracturing compared to 4oz. e-glass. In comparison to e-glass the fractures traveled for about 1/2 the distance with less of a pattern following the weave. It isn't a wonder fabric anymore than kevlar is bullet proof. As far as worth the cost, that's also a function of your wallet. Check out Walbridges book on fiberglass whitewater construction for more info.
