Steve:
I have never built a stitch and glue boat, but I have built a few cedar strip built boats. I have a few sets of plans that I use for various sized paddlers. What I do Steve is move the stations closer or farther apart depending on the lenght of the boat that I want. I know in stitch and glue boats that you do not work with stations, therefore increasing or decreasing the length might be somewhat difficult. Do you plan to buy the kit or a set of plans and make the pieces yourself? I would imagine Chris could answer your question quite easily. The middle part of the boat is where all of your weight is carried, so if you do take the 2' out of the middle tour boat will lose its ability to carry this weight also it will lose alot of its initial stability, which is important in Touring Kayaks. If you have alrady purchased the kit take it from the ends of the boat equally, which will not be easy. Your best bet is to buy the plans or kit that fit your needs. I can be of assistance if you want some ideas on stitch & glue kits, there are other suppliers. I am in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada if you are Canadian, eh?
