Kayak and Canoe Design Bulletin Board

I am knew to building kayaks and have read "The Kayak Shop" by Chris Kulczycki.I think the construction of the "Yare" is within the realm of my abilities, but am noty happy with the length of the craft. I need something smaller. It appears that the middle four feet of the hull is even or "flat" and wonder if I can eliminate 1 1/2 feet in length here. Can anyone tell me if this is will work? How else will it effect the craft? Is there another alternative to shortening this design by 2 feet? Thanks
