Tom,
Check out the August 1998 issue of Sea Kayaker. There's a 20' long kayak in there with a transom stern and a 16" beam (this may be where you saw it). I'm also a little curious about the pros and cons of this design. The article gave the e-mail address of the guy who designed and built that boat. Let me know if you need the address. Also, if you find out any more info make sure and post it here - I'd like to read it.
