Stability and Kayak Weight Question

I am not the engineering type, so give me some latitude on this question. If two kayaks have the same design, but are of different weights due to being constructed of different materials (wood vs plastic), is the heavier one more stable? Is it a complex interaction between paddler weight/cargo weight and kayak weight? And, for a heavier kayaker are there stability disadvantages to the ultralight type wooden kayak versus a heavier plastic one of same design?

thanks,

jim
