Not that you need it, but I can vouche for everything you have said here. I rented a Necky Tofino double (felt like it was 100 feet long and 25 feet wide!) and all of these problems became apparent when paddling with my daughter.
When my brother and I were in it the boat was nice and fast (I bet Nick's Fast Double would really rock with two strong, experienced paddlers).
When my daughter became fatigued it was a major chore to paddle this boat. This was in excellent conditions so the problems would get worse as conditions deteriorate.
I know a couple who bought a double and within a year turned around and bought 2 singles. The double sits unused. They did this because it quickly became apparent that they had differing ideas on what kayaking meant and in order to save their marriage the double had to go! They will often paddle seperate for hours before joining up to continue the trip.
