Your references are all to other sources and not to experience. I get that you think I am mistaken. With 37 years kayaking experience I see it another way. Lets just consider it food for thought.
Best,
Reg
: I totally get your point but you are mistaken in suggesting that this is not
: a problem worth investigating. Just read Sea Kayaker's magazine and you
: will find that very experienced sit-in kayakers who apparently did
: everything right, get into serious trouble. For instance, the chairman of
: my club - an experienced kayaker - put the sprayskirt toggle on the inside
: once, and would have been dead if somebody had not rescued him after he
: flipped over. When the weather turns bad, little things can become huge
: problems: hatches that leak a little can take in gallons, a boat can drift
: away because the paddle that the kayaker held on to was not attached to
: the boat but to the kayaker, radios that don't work because the waves
: reduce the line of sight and a beacon would be good, paddle float rescues
: that don't work because it was practiced in calm weather and now in the
: waves you can't hold it together with bungees, underdressed kayakers who
: get hypothermic. It happens all the time, to good kayakers too. Once
: people go out there and get into adverse conditions you need all the help
: that you can get because kayaks are helpless vehicles in those conditions.
: So I welcome Mathews work whatever may become of it. Respectfully,: Henk
