I'm more apt to believe that design marvels arrived at thru such a primitive people probably had a lot of serendipity in the mix. That is, their environment from which the kayak was created probably was the direct reason [initially] for a flexing frame. Later on it was proven beneficial in practical application by being "wave friendly". To put it in another light, had they constructed a kayak in the south pacific on the fiji islands, they probably never would have thought of a flexing frame because a dug out canoe wouldve taken its place due to the abundant supply of materials for such a craft.
I know im out on a limb here. Ive just never bought into mystical engineering marvels by a primitive people as the result of so much deliberate preconsidered design. and stay with it.
