My lack of interest in sailing kayaks stems from a similar feeling. If I want a sail boat, I would rather use one designed from the ground up to sail well. Adapting a kayak to sail will probably result in a boat that does not paddle well or sail as well as a real sailboat. While this compromised performance is probably worthwhile to some people, it just never got me too excited.
