Fluid flow around the boat is not very informative unless it accounts for the free surface and wave making. Fluid flow models which account for the free surface are not readily available. Probably the best numerical-method model for kayaks is Michlet from L. Lazauskas. My understanding is Michlet uses a wave source-and-sink model to calculate wave resistance.
