When I was a dingy sailor some guys did wetsand there hulls with 600 paper to get a effektive surface. Also if you have self bailors you can leave them opend so that they suck air. the air bubbels will make the boat go faster not much but anyway. In C-2 marathon canoes they uses self bailors. But as you say the best way to speed is to transforme some fat into muscels.
