How does prismatic coefficient affect design?

I am on a ASCE concrete canoe design team for Michigan Tech University, and I have a question about the prismatic coefficient.

We are concerned with how this number will affect the top speed of our canoe, assuming that our paddlers will have the horse power to attain, lets say 10 MPH. If anyone could give me some insight of this subject, I would appreciate it. The concept is pretty abstract, so its been hard to apply it to our design.
