The bulbous bow was invented by the Navy as a place to put the sonar. It so happens that the sonar dome helped the speed performance. Now there are tankers with sonar domes but no sonar. They are convinced that the bulbous bow is there for speed performance reasons. After all the Navy wouldn't do it unless it made the boat work better. They just don't remember the performance parameter the Navy was trying to improve - submarine hunting.
We don't know why the Aleuts made a bifid bow. It may have been for one reason and then adapted to fill another reason. We don't know if either reason is applicable to our current needs. If a boat with a bifid bow does what you want better than one without, than chances are pretty good it doesn't hurt.
