Jupp, that is correct. But a flat bottom boat don't have to be wide. And a round bottom boat don't have to be narrow. If I place a beginner in my rather flat bottom exercise kayak with a BWL of just 0,4 meter. And shout from the beach "No problem this boat has great initial stability". The beginner will certainly ignore that and fell into the water anyhow. That's why I like Johns words at the end of the text regarding tipping the canoe ten degrees
