. The Tracer is the shortest of the boats I paddle,

It may be hard to accurately judge your speed over a distace accurately while breathing your guts out and seeing spots. I am not a racer nor fast paddler, but my experience with fast boats is that I keep paddling harder and the boat goes faster at some point my anerobic threshold is crossed and its time to back off. With a smaller lighter boat with less wetted area I paddle harder , the boat goes faster, but at some point I feel I'm pushing a lot of water before I cross that anaerobic threshold. So my guess, given the fleet of kayaks at your disposal ,is that you could work on the motor and techniqe more.
