larger hulls?

I have yet to begin construction on my kayak. I am being held back because I have begun to think about the follow up project. I was thinking about strip building a catboat. I am planning on designing this hull but am concerned about the required scantlings (framing). I am willing to get bogged down in the details of composite structural design, but as a naval architect I am more interested in the hull form and ship balance. I was wondering if anybody has been down this road before and might have some thoughts on framing. I would probably prefer to laminate frames as opposed to steaming them. I would appreciate any information that anyone might have on beamier hulls. Sorry for being slightly off topic, but I thought there was a good knowlege base here.
