In Response To: Drawing developable surfaces by hand (Greg Jones)

: I’m designing a hard chined S & G boat mostly by hand on the drafting
: board. In order to outline the panels to be cut out of plywood, I need to
: project the hull surface onto a flat surface (the plywood sheet). Does
: anyone know of a reference describing how to do this by hand?

: Aalmost seems this is a lost art what with all the cool software available.
: Thanks in advance.

There is a good book called Ship and Aircraft Fairing and Development For Draftsmen and Loftsmen and Sheet Metal Workers by S. S. Rabl. Written in 1941 it is still in print. It provides non-computer drafting techniques for developing panel shapes.
