But probably only the good ones survived. I'd surmise that since they built their boats by lashing frame members with sinew, etc.; and that they were a lot less wasteful than we are today; and that wood was scarce; that they cut apart the skins and lashings of their bad boats and used the wood and skin to build better ones.
