: Hello,
: I am looking for reference information discussing the evolution of boat
: design. Specifically, I am looking for examples of how culture, necessity
: etc. influenced boat design over the years. Any web site recommendations

Hmm, If it wasn't already summer I'd think this was a request for a homework project.
http://cma.soton.ac.uk/HistShip/shlect67.htm is a section of lecture notes on some Nordic boats. at the end is a short bibliography.
Putz, in his book on canvas covered boats spends a few pages on their history and use, particlarly with regard to the use of the coracle in Ireland.
The book on native boats by Adney and Chappelle is one that I would like to read, from what I have heard of it, it not only has measurements of aboriginal craft, but also discusses their development. You can get a nother short review of it, and many more suggestions for books by consulting the bibliography which happens to be on this board. You can thank Nick for providing it.

hope this helps.
