Skin-on-frame is a very cost-effective way to build a kayak. If you were to build to a baidarka plan you would be more likely to gain the benefits of that design than if you modified a S&G boat.
Skin-on-frame baidarkas have flex which is considered by some to be a contributing factor to their speed. They also have relatively rounded bildges which the Chesapeake does not have.
