The M shape will have stability advantages. If you have access to a boat you want to "borrow" ideas from, you can take a piece of heavy solder and bend it to conform to the shape and use this to transfer the shape to a piece of paper.
It is difficult to create a fair, 3D shape using just 2D drawing tools. Generally you need to draw 3 views: side, top and front. You draw one then transfer the dimensions from it to your other views. Then tweek those views and transfer the dimensions to the other two drawings. This takes a lot of iterations to develop a good design.
You might find it easier to carve a model out of wood or with clay and then transfer dimensions to paper to create full-sized drawings.
