Skin-on-Frame: "Combi" Folding Kayak (s) *Pic*

I've just completed the frame(s) for a folding kayak that converts
from a double to a single. The Combi "double" has an LOA of 21.8 ft. X 26.5
in. beam and a frame weight of 33 lbs. Paddlers are separated by 6.6 ft.

The Combi "Single" has an LOA of 15ft X 22.5 beam and a frame weight of 18lbs.

Construction is of aluminum stringers with HDPE cross sections, coamings,
and footbraces. The double has 9 cross sections and the single has 6.
The "snap on" stringer to cross section connections permit quick
assembly times.

Conversion from Double to Single -

The center three "double" cross sections are removed (5-7), along with their
tubing. Section 7 then replaces section 4. The aft portion of the kayak,
sections 8 and 9 move forward to be reconnected to the forward sections.
No additional components are required.

An second skin is required for the "Single", but it's a small price to pay
for 2 kayaks that can be constructed nearly as easily as one and for the
same cost.

I've long been interested in designing a performance double that could
convert to a single. Until recently, I simply didn't have the time to take
on the project. I think it's called retirement !

I'll attach a small pic of the double on this posting, and one of the single
on the next.

Thanks,

Tom
