It all started when I got a "wild hair" to build a single kayak...then it morphed into a larger plan to have a "father/son" kayak building extravaganza for a small Boy Scout troop...final tally when completed next year: 1 Arctic Tern (Pygmy), 1 Merganser (Shearwater) and 6+ Widgeons (Shearwater). While not totally finished, I was able to get mine out for some great paddle time!

Eric Schade at Shearwater was very generous and helpful with our Scout project. The Widgeons are a perfect fit for the boys now and later as they grow up. He is a very good resource.

We are all a bunch of kayak newbies but I think we're converted for life. Some of the others in our troop (after seeing the "home built") are beginning to see the light.

Of course, the picture shows who really controls the "father/son" kayaks....mother/daughter!

Widgeon is in front and the Tern in back.
