Hi Bryan, HBN can be tinted, practically the tinting is in the epoxy but being white the color shows, with the dye i used bright colors tend to turn milky, a bit on the pastel side, not much of a problem for me since what drove me to the HBN initially was to find something white or off-white. Dark colors are more delicate but i dont use them, light colors dont pose much of a problem though.
Keep in mind that you can still mix black graphite and HBN in any sort of way and play with that.
As for the shading due to "see-through" id suggest to dye the wood with a wash of the color of choice so that it forms a nice base.I would guess that even if the graphite or HBN doesnt need UV protection the resin in the mix does so it should be covered yet i dont think i will ever bother varnishing over HBN from the waterline down. After all the old black graphite didnt use to get covered... or am i wrong?
: Thanks for all the hard work on this. It's very enlightening. I wonder how
: gel coat would compare.: I have a question about graphite. Can the white graphite/epoxy mix be tinted
: another color? Does the graphite need anything over it to protect from UV?
