Set concrete pilings at each end of a small floating dock that's situated parallel and very close to the shore. Build a nice square deck above the riprap with a walkway leading the short distance to the dock. Not only is this handy for light boats but they'd have a nice place for summer barbecues. If they like sailing dinghies too, they can lay in a simple rail for getting them up and down to the water.
